Rollins College, Strong Hall Phase 1

project description

The Rollins College Strong Hall dormitory building was designed as a replacement for an existing outdated dormitory building built back in the mid 1930s. Demolition and construction had to be carefully phased so as to minimize the impact on students. Phase I comprised two separate buildings linked by a covered breezeway totaling 10,300 square feet. It was designed to seemlessly integrate with the historic campus Spanish Mediterranean architectural style. Clay roof tiles, loggias with arched openings, ornate precast concrete columns, exposed rafter tails and wrought iron railings all contribute to the character of the building. Each building contains similar functions such as dorm rooms, a student lounge, a kitchen, and laundry facilities. Project designed under Blankenship Architects Inc.
